They’re in opposite directions from each other — Hobbiton is northeast of Waitomo — but they’re connected by a 45-minute road link (about 47km).

The combination makes logistical sense for anyone arriving in Auckland and wanting to see the Waikato region in a single day. Most guided combo tours from Auckland run the whole route as a circuit, returning to Auckland by early evening.

How Long Do You Need at Each Site?
